Choco Date Balls

Raw Cacao Recipe

I need a steady source of chocolate in my diet or else I get grumpy.  These are easy and fun to make - maybe 15 minutes from start to finish.  They're raw, they're versatile, and they impress the crap out of people.  Feel free to play with what you put in them and what you roll them in.

1½ cups pitted dates
¼ cups raisins
½  cup unsweetened coconut
1 cup sunflower seeds
3T cocoa powder

Put the dates and raisins in a medium bowl and cover with warm h20.
While they soak, lightly toast the coconut in a dry skillet.

Process the coconut, sunflower seeds and cocoa powder in a food processor until crumbly.
Drain the fruit (they don't need to soak long, you just want to re-hydrate them a bit), reserving the soak water, and add them to the food processor.
Process everything together until it gets clumpy and sticky.  Add small bits of the reserve water if necessary, or just drink it :)
Remove from processor and roll into balls.  - I made 22 out of a batch this size.

You might like to roll some of your balls in:  cinnamon, cocoa powder, coconut, macca, sesame seeds...

  1. If you ever decide to give up cooking you would make a very good food photographer. I enjoy your pictures as much as the recipes.

  2. Why thank you, Anonymous, I appreciate that. Have we met?
